Kroger
February 8th, 2011 @ 1:12 pmI know…Kroger…really?
I NEVER use to shop at Kroger…NEVER (not that anything is wrong with it, I just always thought they were higher priced, although I’m finding that they really aren’t)! Why did I start? For one, my personal trainer started asking me to get specific name brands of food that only Kroger had. Another reason…it’s right around the corner (yes, I said it Sis) from my house and is SO convenient with a toddler to just make a quick trip and be done.
What I’ve learned about Kroger that I never knew before…
- They send you coupons periodically for things you already buy. There’s always at least four (I got six last time) coupons for FREE items.
- The coupons that print out at the register are always for something I already buy (Gerber snacks, cheese, etc…). Occasionally you’ll receive the questionable coupon for something you would never buy like hearing aid batteries. LOL!
- If you have a nearby Shell station (and I’ve never been a fan of Shell before either until now), you can use your Kroger Plus card there to get 10 cents off per gallon (and I’ve heard sometimes more). That’s a decent savings if you’re already needing gas anyway. You earn “points” to use toward gas from purchases made at Kroger. And, not all Shell station participate in this, although I’m finding that not all advertise that they participate and you don’t know until you’re buying gas that they do (you’ll be prompted to slide your Kroger Plus card through their machine). If you look online to check which Shell stations participate, not all are listed. I just found out that the nearby (again…right around the corner) Shell station participates, but was not listed as being one that did (and they don’t advertise it).
- BONUS – They give your kids balloons (at least my kid). I’ve never asked for one, but I think they notice Brody saying “eh eh eh eh (times infinity) and want to make him shut up. LOL! We’ve also found a great friend there (Miss Jennifer). Brody LOVES seeing her (as do I) and she just loves Brody (she calls him “her boy”).
Just some pluses about Kroger that I wanted to point out in case they are of interest to anyone. Things I didn’t know until I started going there. The gas discount I just found out about a week ago.
Interesting Finds

That’s all great to know. The problem I have with Kroger and Lowe’s both is that it overwhelms me. They have too much “clutter” to me and the floor layouts don’t make sense to me either– too many signs, everything’s too bright, stuff like that. I get stressed out walking into either place; that’s why I prefer Harris Teeter. Although, I used to think that of HT too, but not as much. Have you ever felt that way too?

I do know what you’re talking about. I agree that Harris Teeter is by far the best place to shop (so serene), but it’s 15-20 minutes to my nearest HT (not worth the drive).

there’s a rumor about a Kroger coming to Tyler. I hope it’s true! I had to stop couponing because Tyler had no stores that doubled or tripled, and very few good deals on their products. We’ve been shopping at super Walmart (you think Kroger’s cluttered??!), but if a Kroger comes, I’ll be able to once again combine store coupons with sales with manufacturer’s coupons with Cellfire coupons. I used to get on average $60-75 of stuff for $30 or less at Kroger. Oh, and their supplements are almost always BOGO free. I miss Kroger…

Wow! Great to know. I forgot about Cellfire. I need to get back on that. I tried it a long time ago, but wasn’t shopping at Kroger back then, so found it pointless. Thanks for mentioning that. Yet another positive for Kroger.

Kroger has great deals in their flyers! I take advantage of their specials. They have the best selection of protein bars at a great price. I have a stack of coupons for other protein bars that I’ll check out tomorrow after work. I almost feel guilty that I’m saving so much money!

You’re right. They do have the best deals for protein bars.

Does any of my sister’s friends out there ever hear her say that?? Or do all “Raleigh-ians” say that EVERYTHING is “right around the corner”?
LOL! If it is right around the corner, you should be able to walk to it.
(Love you Sis!)

LOL…I had never thought about it that way (that if it was “right around the corner” I should be able to walk to it). Just because you can walk to anything in your town.
Maybe I should clarify…IF DRIVING A CAR…it’s “right around the corner”. LOL!

So great to read that my daughter and her two daughters are into saving money. I used to take other grands to Aldi’s and now some are shopping there.
There is an advantage to having been brought up POOR–you remain a smart shopper the rest of your life.

Not that I would want to go through that, but I’m sure it does help you be more savvy with your money. Aldi’s definitely has some great deals. We have one “right around the corner” in the opposite direction of Kroger.
