Grocery Lists To Last The Year
December 14th, 2010 @ 5:07 pm
Are you a grocery list maker? I am, always have been.
In the past few years, I’ve started putting the paper pads on the side of the refrigerator and when we run out of something or there’s something that just sounds good, we write it down. When it’s time to go to the store, I have all of my items wrote on the list already (minus the last minute staples that we’re not quite out of, but I know we’ll need within the week).
I even go one step further (I learned this from my Mom and love this idea!). I re-write my grocery list in the order that the store is organized so I can walk right in, look at my list and not skip a beat. I go in the order of my list and within minutes (ok, so quite a few minutes), my shopping is done and I’m at the check-out. I rarely have to double back unless it’s an item that I hadn’t purchased before and I was guessing where it was located in the store.
And now, to make things even easier (at least for my husband), I have made a check-off grocery list. I came across the tutorial last week and knew that I wanted to make this. It’s SO easy! It’s organized by areas in the store (dairy, frozen, cleaning supplies, produce, etc…). The list is even customizable, so you can make it really fit your needs. It was so easy to change. I added things we often use and added a couple of extra blanks for each category. I even added a “baby” category (again, making it meet my needs).
I haven’t started using it yet (just made it last night). Let me know if you make one and how you like it.

I like this idea and it would be nice to make a special one for Sams (Costco or BJ’s) also!!

I hadn’t thought of places that are frequently visited but not the grocery store. Great idea!

i have my lists in my iphone for each store. and since my phone is always in my pocket at home, whenever i think of something i need, i just mark it off when i think of it. so helpful! but it would be good to have one on the frig, too, for the boys to communicate with me. of course, our frig is covered already with pictures of brody and parker and parker’s art!

I keep forgetting about the phone. Duh! You’re right though…need to have communication for the boys. Happy to make you a list if you tell me what you usually get and what categories you want, etc… Very simple to make.

Oh, NO! Not you, too? I knew that your mother made the listing according to the floor plan of the store and your gramps did, too, but I said why not the list and then realize you are in the aisle for that item, and mentally cross it off, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, you guys had to be different. Do I even know you?
Isn’t it funny how we do things, but accomplish the same result? My aunt, a Home Ec teacher married to an Army Lt. Col. who was in service for 20 years, no kids, but she had the list inside her cabinet door and would add to it as needed.. Whatever works, huh?

Funny! I didn’t know that Grandpa did that. I’m learning that he, my Mom, and I have a lot in common. How fun for me to know!
I love hearing that I’m like him. Puts the biggest smile on my face.
I learned it from my Mom (as I’m sure you guessed). It makes for a quicker grocery store visit and I feel efficient. If I don’t do it that way, I end up having to back track and waste more time.
