Brody’s Quilt – A Preview

I just found an idea for the back of Brody’s quilt (which in my opinion, is about as important as the front). Back of quilts don’t always have to be one fabric. Sure it’s more work to do something different on the back, but it’s worth it! So, here are some photos with examples of what the design of Brody’s quilt will look like. You’ve already seen the front before, but I’m showing it again with the back.

I laid out all of Brody’s onesies that he wore for his first year (11-months to be exact…he grew out of them) and took a picture of them. :) They are in no order whatsoever. Just wanted to get a picture of them to post.

  1. Oops! YOu know me…having knit hundreds of helmet liners for GIs and now, finally the govt. is furnishng them. I am now knitting Caps for the Homeless for those here in 2 nearby towns. 200-250 is considered too LOW a number…so I can only think of those kids who could wear and might NEED these! BUT, since this will be your only child (I hope not, as you make a good one) then maybe you should create all these things.

    Should be nice and warm.

  2. I know….there are so many in need. We do pass a lot of his things to those in need (single mom’s, teen mom’s, etc…). I won’t be saving anymore of his items to “cut up”. This will be a keepsake for life and something he might possibly pass down. He had several more onesies that we passed on. These are just the ones he wore the most and we would remember the most.

  4. Oh, I just love it! What a special keepsake for him (and you). And I adore the back of the quilt- I’ve always done a strip of charms on the back, but I love the idea of adding different fabric too! I can’t wait to see it. You’ll have to tell me how sewing through knit was- I’m slightly intimidated by it.

And I can definitely attest to Jan’s generosity- as she has generously shared several baby items with me!

  5. Thanks Andrea. :) I’m just thrilled to be able to pass things along to Coraline. It’s not long that they get to use items so having others be able to get something out of them certainly makes it worth the money spent on them (even if some are Craigslist items). :)

I’m nervous about the knit fabrics too. We’ll see how it goes. I find with different fabrics (springy ones as I like to refer to them as), they never sew straight. I’m expecting a very uneven quilt, but hoping for much better. :)

  6. LOL about me having all of your talent. Um, did you forget that you still do a lot of “crafty” things and are amazing at what you do? Let’s just say that the talent runs in the family and I’m honored to have received it from you. :)

  8. Look at you taking time to comment on my blog when I know how busy you are. :) Is there anything you can’t do? :) You save some clothes from your kids first year with you and I’ll make you a quilt from them. :)
