Finished Quilt
August 25th, 2009 @ 8:18 pm
I was able to finish my niece’s quilt while on vacation. I had everything ready to go before we left so all I had to do was hand stitch the binding on. I finished when we were about one hour from the house (on the way home this past Sunday evening). I just got it washed today and took a quick photo to share. I’ll be shipping it out to my niece later this week. She wanted it to be a surprise. She did pick out the quilt pattern and one piece of fabric and told me to take care of the rest. I think she’ll be thrilled with it. I certainly am happy with the results.
Up next is the neck tie quilt for my Grandma. I’m still narrowing down the pattern and need to get some fabric. I’ll be posting pictures soon of the progress of that.

AAAAHHHH!!! It’s super awesome, Jan! (I don’t know why I keep yelling everything tonight. I will stop using all caps now.) I really do love it! I’m dying to see it in person, but if you really just want to get it to her, then don’t worry about me.
Are you glad you made it smaller, or no? Do you think it still could’ve gone even smaller? Just curious since it seems really large. She’s gonna love it!

Oh, I definitely want you to see it in person before I ship it out. I am so glad I made it smaller than originally planned and do wish (now) that I would have made it even smaller. It’s so large! It definitely would fit a twin size bed as a comforter. I had hoped for a lap quilt, but this will fit my niece and her two siblings.

Your talent knows no boundries. Beautiful job as always, Jan.

Wow, it is stunning!!!!! I love the colors and I love how the pattern looks in a twin sized quilt. Super job! I too am doing a larger quilt for a toddler bed- only 55 x 40- but still the largest I’ve done to date!
Very nice!!

What is this quilt pattern called? I am thinking of using it on Elliana’s quilt. Thanks

I didn’t use a pattern for this quilt. I just decided on what size squares I wanted (I did 7″ squares), added 1″ sashing around all the squares (using 1/4 inch seam, so cut the sashing into 1.5 inch strips and the squares into 7.5 inch squares). I used a 4 inch border and then did the binding. I just added the length of the fabric (all the squares and sashing up to figure out how much binding I needed). It was a bit frustrating not going off of a pattern, but somehow it worked out. I don’t have notes on it, but would be happy to try to help you figure it out if you want some help. Here is basically the quilt I was mimicking (although this one is much smaller). I just added sashing to it.
